Google Glass was loathed too. Unfortunately Zuckerberg learned the wrong lesson from its failure - that the issue was that people could recognize the glasses and know they were being recorded and not the actual recording itself.
Working on a rewrite of my free app, Post Haste. The idea is that you setup a template folder structure and configure project files and such as you like, then when you want to create a new project you enter some parameters like project name and ID and it copies the structure across.
There’s more to it than that of course, and you can use variables, folder breaks, etc, to fully customize how it sets up the project.
It’s great for ensuring consistency in project structures, which is especially useful in a larger company with a lot of employees. It was originally created for video editors but it’s agnostic and can be used for any type of project.
I’m not sure having lots of people do something necessarily means it’s therefore a “paradise” for them. I view it as more of a necessity because many companies have degraded the jobs and the pay they offer. Why break your back for someone else and still never be able to afford a house?
Fair, but I do wonder how much share prices will matter if the thing claimed is true.
More from the Tesla/SpaceX perspective, given the former has been propping up prices against the widely ridiculed P/E ratios they have had for years now on the basis of being "AI" rather than cars and the latter is following suit since the IPO was announced.
Like, Musk has de facto control over Tesla, de jure and de facto over SpaceX, Tesla isn't paying out dividends, so what's the upside for shareholders even if Musk succeeds?
I don't know enough about Altman to want to guess if he'd pay out dividends or such, but what happened after he was fired by the OpenAI board does make the question important.
There are lots of modern alarm clocks that pair via Bluetooth to your phone and auto-set the time from the phone’s time. No internet connection or NTP server needed.
But a smartphone's time is set how? Via the mobile network (NITZ) or NTP (SNTP)! And what protocol is going across the Bluetooth connection but SNTP? In NTP terms, your alarm clock is now in a stratum below the smartphone, and with only one source of truth, not a good situation.
Then I think this is a trap to get some kind of proprietary app onto your phone.
The clock could set itself from radio signals: standards-compliant.
The clock could have WiFi or Ethernet and use [S]NTP: standards-compliant.
The clock could have a SIM and use NITZ: standards-compliant.
But BT it is. So now rather than having a dependency on standard or generic resources, it requires a BT pairing with the right kind of phone
Ridiculous.

This was my thinking as well, and why I rejected the idea. I'm not installing some rando company's information-harvesting data-selling garbage app on my phone to do something that the clock should do itself.
Given that most alarm clocks only show hours and minutes, I'm not sure micro or nano second accuracy really matters. Provided my alarm clock is within a few minutes of the correct time I don't really care.
The law only matters if there’s someone willing to enforce it. We learned from Trump’s first term that no-one is willing to enforce the emoluments clause.
I think the hallmark of a good designer is knowing which things can be compromised and which things absolutely should never be. Different designers will have different opinions on what those things are.
I’d recommend self-hosting because most SaaS providers charge or limit by usage and it can add up fast.
I use both SigNoz and Sentry with OpenTelemetry. Why both? SigNoz has great dashboards and trace and metrics monitoring, but its alerting system isn’t great. Sentry is great at alerting me to new issues and it also has other features like JS session replays that are nice. They just added metrics monitoring which I haven’t checked out yet.
However Sentry is difficult to set up when self-hosting (it has loads of microservices) and it wasn’t originally designed for Otel so there are rough edges around its Otel compatibility.
I believe the US government will try to limit or restrict access to powerful self-hosted models in future for the reason that they can’t control how they are used. There will be a two-tiered system where government and the military will have access to unrestricted powerful models (perhaps the wealthy too) and everyone else gets a cut-down, restricted version.
Same with humanoid robots, but the risk there is higher because they operate in the physical world and could potentially be jailbroken.
